1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass

Earnhardt referred to his Oldsmobile as a “boat” but that same model of car had a great stretch at the Daytona 500. In 1979 and 1980 an Oldsmobile Cutlass won the Daytona 500, with Richard Petty and Buddy Baker behind the wheel, respectively.

“Back in ’78, ’79, and 1980, that was the car (Oldsmobile Cutlass) to have if you wanted to be competitive in the Daytona 500,” Earnhardt said.
