Honda has announced their asking price for the latest Civic Type R. Buyers should expect to plunk down at least $42,895 plus a $1,095 destination charge for a total of $43,990 if they want to drive home in the most powerful car Honda has ever offered in the U.S.

Based on the 11th-generation Civic hatchback, the latest Type R packs a two-liter turbocharged inline four rated at 315 horsepower. The force-fed four also delivers 310 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,600 rpm. Those figures are an improvement of 9 hp and 15 lb.-ft. over the outgoing Type R.

The newfound power from the Type R’s K20C1 engine came courtesy of a redesigned turbo, an improved air intake, and a more efficient exhaust system with an active exhaust valve. Honda said that the size, shape, and number of vanes on the turbo were all optimized, which helps generate more boost across a wider powerband.

As is tradition, a manual is the only transmission choice for the Type R. The six-speed manual has been strengthened courtesy of a high-rigidity lever and optimized shift gate pattern. A helical-gear limited-slip differential is standard equipment as is a revised rev-match system for perfect downshifts.

Honda also claims that the latest Type R has significantly increased structural rigidity and that the track has been widened one-inch on the front and .75-inches in the rear. Additional chassis refinements include a retuned dual-axis strut front strut, two-piece front brake rotors, and a retuned brake booster for better pedal feedback.

There are four selectable driving modes available, including Comfort, Sport, R+, and a new Individual mode which enables customization of engine, steering, and suspension settings. In R+ mode, the digital gauge cluster positions the tachometer and gear position indicator at the top for easier viewing from the driver’s seat.

The 2023 Civic Type R will be available in five colors: Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl, Sonic Grey Pearl, and Championship White (a Type R exclusive). New Type R’s have already begun arriving at Honda dealers nationwide, so its likely you’ll see one on the road or track near you soon.
