The Hyundai Santa Fe is an SUV with a bit of a mixed reputation. Some years are great, but some are less than stellar regarding innovation and reliability. However, the automaker has the world talking with its recently unveiled 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. The long-running vehicle is back with a redesign and marks quite a change. However, the verdict is still out on if it will be a contender for best midsize SUV. Still, it seems to be an improvement over the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe where the public is concerned.

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe delivers efficient power

The all-new model might look like a huge improvement over the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. However, according to reports, it’s also heavier. Those extra pounds make the increase in power almost meaningless. The 2024 edition has two powertrain options for North America and Korea. The first is Hyundai’s Theta II engine, which is a 2.5-liter turbocharged unit with a maximum output of 277 horsepower. It has a torque of 311 lb-ft.

According to Hyundai, the second option is a 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid engine. The engine is the automaker’s Gamma III powerhouse, and it has a maximum output of 177 horsepower. For context, the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe also uses a 2.5-liter engine, but its base trim has a lower maximum output of 191 hp.

The U.S. versions will come with either an eight-speed twin-clutch automatic or a six-speed automatic on the Hybrid version.

The version of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe that Europe will get is a little different. Both options are hybrids, with the first being the same 1.6-liter Gamma III unit. However, the other is a plug-in hybrid with a maximum output of 157 hp.

Other regions of the world will get the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine but have a horsepower of 191.

The interior makes it worthy of best midsize SUV

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fee looks like a comfortable vehicle as the automaker has stacked it with features and creature comforts. In fact, buyers can even add leg rests to the front seats, which is a feature that’s becoming more common on higher-end cars. The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is also a spacious vehicle, partly due to the design team moving the gear shift to the steering column. This change allows for two wireless charging pads in place of where the gear shift would have been.

Regarding technology, the 2024 Santa Fe could really be worthy of the best midsize SUV title. The vehicle is a giant improvement over the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. It has two 12.3-inch infotainment screens. The screens use a combination of touch and hard buttons to function. Though not a super high-tech feature, this midsize SUV also has a sanitizing tray, which is perfect for things like phones, keys, and even credit cards.

When can you get one?

One of the biggest questions people have is when will the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe go on sale. The automaker is currently launching the SUV in Korea, and MotorTrend believes the vehicle will be available in early 2024 for other parts of the world. People should also note that the price of the new Hyundai Santa Fe is still under wraps. However, many believe it will start around $45,000.

Overall, this is a daring SUV from Hyundai. Perhaps this is just the thing it needs to continue its stride toward fully competing with the top automakers. Buyers should note that both Hyundai and Kia in recent years have improved greatly. This new Santa Fe is simply the most recent example of that improvement.
