What Makes the 2024 Lotus Emira a Legendary Sports Car

Lotus is an iconic automaker in the sports car world. However, the brand has never had widespread appeal. Despite this, people often consider the Lotus Emira one of the best sports cars. This is despite it being a fairly modern option, as it debuted in 2021. Now, the 2024 Lotus Emira has the world talking. Here’s what makes it such a legendary sports car.

The 2024 Lotus Emira delivers ultra impressive performance

One of the things that makes this among the best sports cars is its performance. According to Car and Driver, the 2024 Lotus Emira comes in two separate engine options. The first is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, and the second is a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. The 2.0-liter has a maximum output of 360 hp, while the more potent option produces 400 horsepower.

Regarding transmissions, the only option for the smaller engine is an eight-speed automatic. However, the V6 can have either a six-speed torque converter automatic or a six-speed manual. People should also note that the 2.0-liter engine comes from Mercedes-AMG, while the V6 is a Toyota engine. According to some road tests, it accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 4.2 seconds.

The interior makes the new Lotus Emira among the best sports cars

Of course, no one buys sports cars for the interior. They’re always small, and sports car automakers design these rides with the intention of them being fast above all else. However, the 2024 Lotus Emira is among the best sports cars in this regard. This two-seater has everything a person could need. One of the highlights is that it’s comfortable and easier to get into than the few older models of the ride. This is due to the large door openings on the new Emira.

Regarding space, it has about seven cubic feet of cargo area in the rear. It also has about five cubic feet behind the engine.

The inside of this car really shines, thanks to the standard 10-inch infotainment screen. To the dismay of some traditionalists, there are no physical controls besides the ones on the steering wheel. The infotainment system integrates with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Naturally, the car also has charging ports.

Final thoughts

The Lotus Emira may not be everyone’s first choice for a sports car. This is partly because it’s still a new nameplate and has yet to have the chance to build up a strong reputation. However, it’s still a respected car. Unfortunately, a major drawback is the availability of service, as places to get a Lotus worked on are rare. This, of course, makes Lotus ownership more expensive than other sports cars. Still, more people with the means to do so should give the 2024 Lotus Emira a chance.
