The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most iconic sports cars in American automotive history. However, the automaker stirred up controversy by announcing the all-new hybrid Corvette. Known officially as the 2024 Corvette E-Ray, early information about the upcoming ride makes it easily among the best hybrid cars. However, traditionalists still aren’t pleased. Despite the premature hate towards the new Corvette, it has much to offer long-time fans and the new, more environmentally friendly generation.

The 2024 Corvette could be among the best hybrid cars

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray will be one of the best hybrid cars because of its performance. According to Chevrolet, the Electric Corvette, as some are calling it, comes standard with a 6.2-liter engine that produces a combined maximum output of 655 horsepower. Of that, 160 hp comes from the electric drive unit. For comparison, the Stingray version of the car has a maximum output of 490 hp. The 2024 Corvette E-Ray also happens to be all-wheel drive. The vehicle’s electric motor is a 1.1 kWh battery pack, which has a home between the two passengers in a compartment.

Like any Corvette, this is an insanely fast car. The automaker reports that it accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 2.5 seconds, whereas it takes the Stringray .4 seconds longer. The Electric Corvette comes in three trim options: the base 1LZ, the 2LZ, and, you guessed it, the 3LZ. However, the difference between the three are not performance related.

The inside of the Electric Corvette is like the gas powered version

There aren’t a ton of differences between the cabin of the Electric Corvette and the ICE model. This two-seater has 8-way power competition sport driver and passenger seats. Additionally, it has a carbon fiber leather-wrapped steering wheel on the highest trim. Though it doesn’t have a ton of space, this 2024 Corvette has a great look that’s, of course, race car inspired.

Regarding technology, it’s a pretty advanced car despite not having all the bells and whistles as some other Chevrolet models. It has a standard 8-inch touchscreen display, which has some differences from the one in the regular Vette. This one has a separate layout to present battery information and performance metrics. Besides this, the Electric Corvette has buttons on the side for the stop/start system as well as the brand new Charge+ setting. This feature charges the battery in only 2 to 3 minutes.

In terms of the sound system, the base model has a 10-speaker Bose system, while the advanced options have a 14-speaker car sound system. Additionally, the entry-level model has an HD rear vision camera, but the other two trims have this for the front and the rear. All in all, the 2024 Corvette has what you’d expect from a car that prioritizes speed and performance.

Final thoughts

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray has the world talking. Though not a replacement for the version we all know and love, it has ruffled some feathers. Despite this, it has the makings to be among the best hybrid cars on the market. The EPA has yet to release the official fuel economy, but it should be pretty solid in this regard. Luckily, fans won’t have to wait long for the electric Corvette as it should go on sale late this year.
