A new breed of thoroughbred: USAC's Mustang Cup to debut in 2025
The Mustang Challenge is getting a little brother.
USAC, which stands for United States Auto Club, announced that the Mustang Cup will make its debut in 2025, acting as a feeder series towards IMSA's Mustang Challenge.
The sanctioning body USAC primarily focus on dirt track/short track racing such as Midgets, Sprint Cars and other modified stock cars.

“We are excited to introduce Mustang Cup as an additional avenue for racing enthusiasts to pursue their passion,” said Ford Performance Global Motorsports Director Mark Rushbrook in the release. “Mustang Cup is a foundational starting springboard in our global sports car racing program, and it also offers advancement into Mustang Challenge, Mustang GT4 and Mustang GT3.”
The Mustang Cup will run the exact same car that is currently run in the Mustang Challenge, the Mustang Dark Horse R, and it will offer the option of a two-driver lineup to create a more natural sportscar experience.
Each weekend will be feature two races in a doubleheader format and the points will also be eligible for the Miles Cup and Parnelli Cup.
The schedule was also released with info about the series and the there will be six event weekends, with 12 races in total.
Each weekend will have three 30-minute practice sessions, two 15-minute qualifying sessions and the races will be 40-minute races.
The series will kickstart its inaugural season at NOLA Motorsports Park on April 11th, running through the 13th. The other five stops include COTA (May 16-18), Ozarks International Speedway (July 4-6), Road America (August 8-10), Lime Rock Park (October 17-18) and VIR (November 7-9).
More information we would expect will be coming at a later date, with teams and drivers announced over the coming months leading into April's race at NOLA.
