Just as BTTF III starts to kick off we catch 1955 Doc Brown and Marty McFly taking the instructions from 1885 Doc Brown and locating the DeLorean where it was hidden for more than 70 years, After excavating the DeLorean out, they need a period correct tow truck to haul this futuristic car. And this is where the 1948 Ford F3 Tow Truck steps in.
With its original bed replaced with a hydraulic lift and all the patina that would suggest this truck has had a long and hard life, the 1948 Ford F3 fits right in with the rest of the scene. The front of the F3 is outfitted with a push bar and the top of the roof is equipped with three DOT safety lights per regulations for vehicles wider than 80 mm’s. 1948 marked the first year for the Ford F-series and was the first generation of what would become the best-selling vehicle in the world .
The 1948 Ford F-3 was a heavy duty 3/4 ton truck. Size designations for the F- series ran from F-1 through F-8 with increasing maximum GVWR with each. F-3 trucks were had a 6,800 GVWR
