#27- 1983 Renault 11 TXE
Appeared in: A View to a Kill
Out of all the cars Roger Moore has to commandeer to follow a parachuting assassin, he happens upon a lowly Taxi driver in his 1983 Renault 11. In typical Bond fashion, Bond pushes the Renault taxi through an urban gymkhana that includes driving backwards down two flights of stairs, a jump off a ramp onto a double decker bus, a mid-drive convertible conversion compliments of a toll barrier and a broadside collision that turns the taxi into half a car driven by its front wheels. Nevermind that there’s no gas tank supplying fuel to the engine. It’s James Bond we’re talking about here (in reality, the stunt team stuffed an external tank up front.)
In the film, three Renault 11’s were used in total. One complete one for all the closeup shots and during the high-speed pursuit, one with its roof removed and two halves of another for the infamous half car shots.
The complete Renault lived a much more posh life than its severed counterparts and was used in subsequent Bond displays to advertise their latest movies. It was sold at auction in the U.K. for about $6000 thanks to no reserve.
