There’s no replacement for displacement and this pokey little Honda Civic is testament to that fact.

If you strip an already light car down to its bare bones, rip out the old and tired Japanese four cylinder and stuff in a honking big American V8 into it, you’re bound to have a rip-roaring good ol’ time. If you then slap on a pair of turbos onto that V8 and dial up the boost high enough, you’re bound to break a couple of records and enter into that sacred hall that is internet fame. According to 1320 Video on their latest video upload earlier this week (Oct. 26, 2015) Jeff Lutz Jr. has been building this monster of a 1989 Honda Civic Hatchback for the past couple of years and got the privilege of seeing it run down the quarter mile for a couple of passes. Check out that video below.

Underneath the hood of this once innocuous Japanese import is a 434 cubic inch V8 equipped with a burly pair of nuts in the form of twin 76 mm turbos. With everything stripped, the total weight of the car, engine, and driver comes to a featherweight 2300 pounds. That’s slightly heavier than a Lotus Elise to keep things in perspective.

Racing runs in the Lutz family as his father, the elder Jeff, is an accomplished drag racer in his own right taking the Hot Rod Drag Week Unlimited crown last year.

And his quarter mile time at the end of the day? 7.84 seconds at 151 MPH. A Bugatti Veyron can only do it in slightly above 10 seconds. Rock on Jeff Lutz Jr. Keep doing what you’re doing. But if you pull up next to us at a stoplight, those gigantic rear tires are such a dead giveaway.
