The 2016 Honda Civic Coupe is set for its official debut in a couple of days at the L.A. Auto Show and we can’t be more excited.

The L.A. Autoshow, once nothing more than a place for manufacturers to showcase their latest models to thousands of California residents, has now become one of the hottest auto shows in recent years. This year, more than 11 new models will make their world debut with an equal number of North American models debuting as well.

Honda is not only bringing its newly christened sedan to the 2016 L.A. Auto Show, they’re also bringing taking the wraps off its 2016 Honda Civic Coupe and we couldn’t be more excited. Here are five reasons why you should be excited too.

  • Honda has said that this Civic coupe will have sportier lines than the sedan. – When the 2016 Honda Civic Sedan debuted, pretty much everyone agreed that this was a return to form for Honda, a design language that Honda fans could get behind and could be proud of. According to one Honda exec, this one ” will showcase even sportier lines.” And according to spyshots from Motoring Authority, it looks like the final design has stayed true to the concept.
  • Those boomerang taillights– Boomerang taillights are all the rage for 2016 with Nissan already sporting a set on its Juke Juke and Altima. And even Toyota had Boomerang taillights on its Toyota CH-R concept. According to spyshots as well as the concept itself, it looks like the Honda Civic Coupe will definitely sport some boomerang taillights just like its Sedan counterpart. What we’re really curious to see is if that strip in-between those tail lights will light up. In the sedan it doesn’t.

  • That turbo engine– Honda unveiled it’s 1.5-liter turbo engine in the 2016 Civic Sedan and it was packing a generous 174 HP and 163 lb-ft of torque. And although it’s FWD only, you have your choice of six-speed manual or CVT depending on trim level. We expect this same option to be extended to the coupe.
  • The aftermarket potential is going to be bananas.- We think it’s no coincidence that Honda has decided to unveil its Coupe in L.A. a.k.a. the epicenter of all things aftermarket for imports. We’re pretty sure some pre-production models have already found their way to some suspension and performance manufacturers with upgraded suspension options and turbo kits at the ready for when this 2016 Honda Civic finally hits the market.
  • The possibility for more Civic Type R news. – When the Civic sedan was unveiled, they dropped news that the US Market WOULD get the Honda Civic Type R. Perhaps Honda will drop a littler more information our way? We’ll have to wait and see.
