McLaren 720S Supercar Is Now A LEGO Toy
You may not be able to afford the real thing. But the McLaren 720S LEGO car will try its best to satisfy the need to build your own version of supercar.
The 710 hp, twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 powered McLaren 720S costs a lot of money if you wish to add it to the garage. The £208,600 (price in the UK) space-age machine can do 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and has a scintillating top whack of 212 mph. It’s definitely not the kind of car which is going to be affordable. But you can choose to buy the LEGO version of it for a much lesser sum.
The McLaren 720S LEGO version is joining its real-world stablemate – the McLaren P1 – in the brick world. McLaren Media site has announced the price of the build as £12.99 for the UK market. Pricing for the US hasn’t been announced yet. Since the P1 LEGO toy costs $14.99, it’s highly unlikely that the new addition to the LEGO Speed Champions range will cost more than its mightier, fancier and more glamorous sibling.
LEGO as always, has thrown in a charming little narrative with the toy. The set includes the bricks needed to build the car, a car designer mini-figure and his design studio desk, complete with coffee cup, original design sketch, and 3D-printed model car. That’s going to give the target audience a taste of a car designer’s world. That target audience comprises of children above the age of 7 and adults who are still ardent fans of LEGO builds.

McLaren Automotive Chief Designer, Rob Melville had this to say about miniature version of the 720S.
"The LEGO interpretation of the McLaren 720S reflects the most exciting part of the design process, when a two-dimensional sketch is transformed into a physical, three-dimensional model. Building a model like this gives the next generation of McLaren enthusiasts a taste of just how exhilarating that moment is for designers."
