Fan Theory #2: The Hybrid 911 Is Inbound?

Now this is going to be a wilder fan theory. The next-generation Porsche 911 is undergoing development and testing as we speak. The Nürburgring is one of the proving grounds and the car was recently spotted there too. Porsche will be launching it towards the end of the decade. But that’s going to be the non-hybrid version. The manufacturer is still unsure about a hybrid 911, though they would like to see a plug-in hybrid version in the 911 range.

This was referred to by model line director, Thomas Krickelberg in his conversation with Motoring.au early this year.

"We are prepared if we have to do that [hybrid] but we are not convinced that we should."

The Motoring report states that Krickelberg mentioned about a three-to-four year lag between the green lighting the hybrid 911 plan and the actual launch date. So it isn’t too early to start the R&D for that car right now. So this theory may not be that far-fetched after all.
