Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant is probably the proper “Alien” sequel that many have always wanted to see. We are in for the ride too and so is the Audi Lunar Quattro moon rover.

To satisfy those who were disappointed by Prometheus, Ridley Scott is returning in 2017 with Alien: Covenant. And this time, it’s going to scare the living daylights out of everyone. We have one more reason to be interested in this sci-fi creature-feature. Audi is involved and will be showcasing the Audi Lunar Quattro moon rover in this instalment of the Alien franchise.

When Prometheus was launched in 2012, it wasn’t the “Alien” flick that the fans of Chest Bursters, Face Huggers and Xenomorphs wanted. It was more philosophical than bloody. More thematic than outright horror. Dividing critics and fans alike, Prometheus did succeed in establishing one fact.

A proper, violent, terrifying sequel had to be made. So Alien: Covenant was born, in all its bone-crunching, chest-bursting, blood-splattering glory. And like most modern-day Hollywood tentpoles, product placement came calling. For Alien: Covenant it came in the form of Audi.

When 20th Century Fox and Audi decided to make some room in Alien: Covenant for effective and seamless cross-branding, the Audi Lunar Quattro moon rover was the perfect fit. For a story set in 2104, with the plot development spread across spaceships and alien planets in another part of the galaxy, there couldn’t have been a better choice of wheels to bear the Audi badge.

The German carmaker had been working closely with a Berlin-based engineering start-up called “Part-Time Scientists” to develop the fully-functional moon rover. Merging the ambitious plan of the start-up with the cutting-edge tech at Audi’s disposal saw the birth of this incredible piece of exploration gear. And yes, this little rover which will remind you of Wall-E is actually going to the moon in 2018. Read all about the “Mission to the Moon” initiative here.

It would be too awkward and forced to have a Q7 barreling down the surreal landscape of an alien planet with Michael Fassbender behind the wheel. The Lunar Quattro is a much more tasteful choice for a movie like Alien: Covenant.

The Lunar Quattro boasts of some of the best tech that German carmaker has developed and honed. The aluminum construction, the super-efficient e-tron motor, the solar panel powering the propulsion system along with the gadgets on board and the Quattro all-wheel drive system are just some of the highlights. The carmaker has also taken care of the 3D printing which was the process adopted to craft the components.

This will be the first vehicle bearing the four rings logo to land on the moon. Being prepped up to endure the harsh climatic conditions of the moon, the Lunar Quattro will also test the build quality of the machine during its exploratory mission.

In Alien: Covenant, the rover will be aiding the crew of the colony ship “Covenant” as they explore a remote planet far from Earth. Audi, 3AM and 20th Century Fox have created a short clip which shows the rover exploring the Terraforming Bay set in the movie, only to come across the one thing that has haunted creature-feature followers for life. And one can only imagine the fate of the Lunar Quattro upon crossing paths with the most formidable killing-machine in Hollywood’s gallery of monsters.
