Michael Fassbender Is Now A Ferrari Race Car Driver… For Real!
After legends like Paul Newman and Steve McQueen, it’s Michael Fassbender’s turn to be Hollywood’s face in motorsports. Magneto has completed the first round of the 2017 North American Ferrari Challenge series at Laguna Seca.
First things first, Michael Fassbender is not starring in a Michael Shcumacher biopic, though he’d be a good fit to play the role of the best F1 driver Ferrari has ever had. The news at hand has got more to do with actual racing for the sheer thrills of it than a training session for an upcoming role.
Michael Fassbender is one of those Hollywood talents who came out of nowhere and established himself as a household name with a string of summer blockbusters and Indie movies. It may have been his role as Magneto in the X-Men prequel trilogy which made him an international star. But roles in more serious cinema like 12 Years A Slave and Steve Jobs re-emphasized his place as an acting powerhouse. You’ll see him in Prometheus and its sequel, Alien: Covenant too, handling the roles of android characters Walter and David with ease.
We are more interested to see Fassbender in the new role that he has taken up. The role of a racecar driver. The German-born Irish actor has quietly completed the first round of the 2017 North American Ferrari Challenge series. The single-model series fields Ferrari 488 Challenge race cars.
An ardent fan of Ferrari, Ferrari F1 and Michael Schumacher; Michael Fassbender had been training with the “Corso Piloto” program for the past one year. After completing the rigorous training, the actor signed on for the North American Ferrari Challenge race series which commenced with the first round at Laguna Seca recently.
We hope the dark side of Magneto doesn’t take over once Fassbender hits the track in the Ferrari 488. That won’t end well for his rivals for sure.

The results of the Laguna Seca round haven’t been officially announced yet by Ferrari. But Fassbender did spill the beans in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on how he fared at the track.

Kicked off in 1992, the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli event is hosted by the carmaker to let the clients and the VIPs in their circle enjoy the thrill of competing in a proper racing series. Michael being a hardcore fan was asked by the company to give it a try. The actor who has always been quite vocal about his love for the Italian brand dove in immediately.
"Ferrari is defined by racing, and training with the Ferrari team gave me a great foundation to hone my skills behind the wheel of the 488 Challenge race car. From a very early age I idolized Ferrari and its champion, Michael Schumacher, in particular, so now racing in the Ferrari Challenge brings that dream full circle."
He will compete in the remaining rounds of the series, with the second round being set to take place in Montreal.
