Thor 3 will be in theaters in the first week of November and among dozens of Easter Eggs, the creative team has tucked in the names of Holden cars.

Holden is gone as General Motors shut down the Australian carmaker’s manufacturing plant in order to cut costs. It marked the end of the car manufacturing industry in the Land Down Under. Meanwhile, Marvel is once again hitting theaters with Thor: Ragnarok – the highly-anticipated sequel in the cosmic-focused franchise featuring the God of Thunder. Two unrelated pieces of news, or are they related in a weird way? As a matter of fact, they are.

In a recent interview with YouTube channel triple j, Thor 3 director Taika Waititi, let the fans in on one of the many super-special Australian Easter Eggs that have been added to the superhero movie. Paying tribute to Holden, some of the spaceships in the sequel have names borrowed from Holden cars.

Statesman, Commodore, Kingswood and Torana names have made their way into superhero movie history with their debuts in Thor 3. And all these ships have crucial roles in driving the story forward. Hopefully, as a “harder to find” Easter Egg, Waititi might have even included V8 growls into the synthesized sounds those spaceships make. What’s the harm in wishing for it anyway?

More from Movie Cars

With the lead actor – Chris Hemsworth – too being an Aussie and the director taking a lot of effort to integrate as much of “Australia” into the cosmic adventure set in another part of the universe, Thor: Ragnarok is already being hailed as a true Australian film. Waititi added a dollop of local cast and flavor into the movie and the set so that he felt more comfortable while completing this king-size project. But he did all of that in an admirable and enjoyable fashion.

Taika Waititi is one of the most talented directors out there and having him helm Thor 3 is one of the best decisions Marvel has taken in recent times. The movie already garnering fantastic reviews with many calling it one of the finest and boldest, if not the best MCU movie ever.
