BMW has kept the Competition version of the M2 under wraps….until now.  Some very picturesque photos and a handful of specs got released today and its looking quick.

The photos “leaked” today on BMW’s Australian portal, here (this should be a cache, I hope it works).  The photos are very, Need for Speed esque and are set on an urban track that gives way to BMW‘s younger target market who grew up on the games.

The car features incredibly aggressive kidney grills which make sure the people around know you have a BMW, an M2 badge on the grill makes sure enthusiasts around you know you have the creme de la creme of BMWs.  Giant air inlets on the front direct air to the motor.

Special 19 inch M alloy wheels finish round out the front and side profile.  I don’t know if I should call it a signature hip line, whatever it is, the hip line flows back towards the actual signature M quad exhaust.  The entire package is topped off with an aggressive rear bumper and valance area.

The car has the bones to back up the look.

The number everyone is waiting for is the power output.  302kW which comes to right about 404hp from the 3.0l Twin Turbo 6 cyl.  Just shy of the much larger M4, awww yeah, high power, low weight.

There is a down to these photos though, not a single one includes a manual transmission.  However, this is replaced by a dual-clutch SMG transmission.  In this case, I think it is the better option.  Manual purists might as well stop reading now.  With the car being meant as a more hardcore track focused version of the M2, the SMG is a better option for the track.

All in all..

this car won’t be setting power records and that’s ok, perfect actually.  Where it shines is in smiles, it should be an absolute hoot to drive.  BMW has a winning combo of power, weight, and handling at a decent price with the M2 and extends it with the Competition.
