BMW: The new 8 Series is just as spendy as it looks.

BMW has been teasing the new 8 Series for a while now.  We have all seen the myriad of teaser and official photos by now, but today… we see the price.

I have made myself fairly clear in the past that I am not a huge fan of the dozens of teaser photos BMW released, very slowly.  I think I made my point here well enough.  The gorgeous super coupe sports the look to match the price tag and hopefully has the performance to match.

The 6 Series replacement will set buyers back at least $111,900.   I’ll let that sink in for a minute.

Has that sunk in yet?

Just to make sure you read it right, $111,900.  For the base model.  However, it is one heck of a base model so it will probably be totally worth it.

The M850i will be equipped with a 4.4 liter twin turbocharged V8, plenty of punch for the big coupe to blast through the countryside on a Sunday drive.  Also plenty of power on tap for a track day.  The car will handle both of these with grace as this car is a looker.

As far as other standard features, the driver is surrounded with Merino leather seating standard.  (Merino leather is a full grain leather that is dyed but has no artificial coatings, different from Nappa.)  BMW LED with Laserlights adorn the front and a Harmon-Kardon 16 speaker sound system controlled from a 12.3 inch touchscreen add to the refinement.

The suspension is kept to BMW levels of comfortable sportiness with adaptive dampers at all four corners.  The car will be heavy but should still feel plenty nimble in most situations, as BMW tradition dictates.

There’s more.

There will also be a true M version of the 8 Series.  The M8 will debut later this year.  I believe it will be more like the S63 AMG Coupe, more of a highway bruiser than a track weapon.  The M8 will be an exciting addition to BMW’s current lineup.
