This is the Fourth-Generation Mazda MX-5, (Japanese name: Mazda Roadster). The MX-5 has matured and evolved over the last quarter century and there is no doubt that the key to realizing this lays with the effective implementation of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, which strikes the right balance between reduced weight and environmental performance and safety. It also includes KODO design, which brings the presence of a living creature and a strong sense of vitality to the car. (Photo by Victor Decolongon/Getty Images for Mazda Motor Co)

Fourth-generation Mazda Miata engine

Previous generation used a SkyActiv-G engine which was a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder which produced roughly 155 horsepower. Although, the HP may seem low, the car is lightweight and tuned to accelerate very quickly. The model being released boosts the horsepower by 26 for a total of 181 horsepower in this Japanese roadster. The engine being placed in the Miata features larger, but lighter components which help keep weight down, but power up.

Handling and Acceleration

This vehicle is known for its quickness mostly due to the small body style. Majority of the weight is placed in the central of the car to allow for balance and smooth handling. The steering wheel was also revamped and provides telescoping ability. Mazda has tried to keep the nostalgic burst of speed alive with the newest model by adding features to provide more horsepower, efficient weight and tuned driving.

Other exciting additions

A more powerful engine requires more exhaust, which Mazda realized and they decided to redesign the exhaust pipe on the Miata. Technology features were also introduced, one of them being a backup camera which is now required on vehicles. Another feature is traffic sign recognition, which allows for speed to be viewed from inside your car. Miata is an excellent choice for quick, manual and tech filled for even a daily driver.

Pricing

The MX-5 starts off $25,295 which included the new and improved engine. There is many different trims to choose and include different performance, and tech specs. The vehicles are available for purchase and have begun deliveries.
