Mario Andretti (1968-1969, 1976-1980)

Andretti drove for Colin Chapman and Team Lotus in two separate stints and with the Lotus 79, an early grounds-effect car, he won his only F1 Drivers’ Championship in 1978. I know Andretti is associated with IndyCar but his time at Team Lotus was highly successful with 11-wins and 17-pole positions in 79-races.

In my opinion Andretti is the greatest American racing driver and I will now get off my soapbox.
