The Mazda CX-50 is one of the newer options from the celebrated automaker. However, it has gathered quite the following, as many call it one of the best small SUVs. Now, the 2024 Mazda CX-50 is here and has quite a bit to offer. Like most Mazda models, the new edition delivers solid power, has a spacious interior, and offers impressive safety ratings. For those not wanting the newest model, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 is also a solid option.

The 2024 Mazda CX-50 is one of the best small SUVs for performance

The world regards Mazda as one of the true powerhouses when it comes to performance. This is why its SUVs are so well regarded by the car-buying world. Because of this, it’s no surprise that the 2024 Mazda CX-50 is so impressive with its two separate powertrain options. According to Edmunds, it comes standard with a 2.5-liter inline-four engine that makes 187 horsepower and has a torque of 186 lb-ft.

The other powertrain for the 2024 Mazda CX-50 also uses a 2.5-liter, but it’s turbocharged. This version of the SUV has a maximum output of 227 horsepower with a torque of 310 lb-ft. The CX-50 is an all-wheel drive SUV that uses a six-speed automatic transmission. According to road tests, it takes the turbocharged version about 6.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour. Buyers should note that the 2023 Mazda CX-50 offers the same performance.

Regarding fuel economy, the non-turbocharged versions average 24 miles per gallon in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. The turbocharged versions are similar in this regard.

The 2024 Mazda CX-50 has a well made interior

Mazda has been celebrated for its attention to detail when it comes to its interiors. In some cases, they even come close to matching the cabins of luxury options on the market. While the 2024 Mazda CX-50 doesn’t, it’s still a great car that has much to offer on the inside. With seating for five, this is one of the best small SUVs for interior space. It also has 56.3 cubic feet of cargo storage. This is equal to the 2023 Mazda CX-50.

Regarding interior technology, the 2024 Mazda CX-50 is pretty snazzy. Its base trim has an 8.8-inch touchscreen, while all other options have a 10.3-inch unit. Both screens use the Mazda Connect system and support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It has a standard eight-speaker setup, but the Premium and Premium Plus trims have a 12-speaker Bose system.

Another reason this is one of the best small SUVs is because it’s safe. Not only is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 a Top Safety pick from the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety, but the new model has several safety features. They include:
