The 2017 Honda Civic Si will come with a 2.0L detuned Civic Type R motor good for around 220-230 HP.

With the all new Honda Civic sedan and coupe already on sale in the United States and with all the shock and awe that the Civics restyled body and engines provided auto journalists, the North American market has the Civic Si and Type-R still to look forward to. And although details have sparse about what exactly Si and Type-R will mean for the United States, we’ve got a couple of semi-credible sources floating around that hint at what’ll be under the hood of the Si. According to Civic X forums earlier Saturday, an inside source close to HondaPro Jason confirmed that the 2016 Honda Civic Si would come with a detuned Civic Type R motor.

According to HondaPro Jason, the new Honda Civic Si will be introduced sometime in late fall of 2016 and will come with 220-230 HP and a six-speed manual, as is tradition for Si trim levels. The engine itself will take much architecture, parts, and inspiration from the Honda Civic Type R engine.

When it comes to making predictions about the Honda Civic Si, it’s not all that hard to make a couple of educated guesses. The hottest motor from the Civic EX 1.5L turbo comes with 174 HP and 162 lb-ft of torque and the 2016 Honda Civic Type R in European markets makes 310 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. If we look at the previous generation Si, the 2015 Honda Civic Si made 205 HP and 174 lb-ft of torque compared to the Civic EX which made 143 HP and 129 lb-ft, roughly a 40 percent increase in HP and 30 percent increase in torque. Extrapolate that figure to the current Civic and we’re looking at 240 HP and 210 lb-ft, well within range of the predictions HondaPro Jason set out.

Predictions about the rest of the car can be pretty much speculated with some sort of accuracy as well. Outside come to expect a special front and rear lip including a bespoke spoiler for the Si trim. In addition, look for special Si wheels that are just a bit bigger than EX wheels. Underneath you’re more than likely to find a bigger exhaust with special chrome finish. Inside you’ll find an Si trim level interior that includes textured aluminium pedals, special shift knob and more than likely, form-fitting  Recaro seats.

Estimated MSRP will be well under $25,000.

As for the aftermarket, look for turbo manufacturers to come up with simple flash tunes that will make the Si just as competitive, if not more so, than the 2016 Honda Civic Type R.
