Lexus IS 250 Trumps All In UK Owners Survey
By Paulo Acoba
61,000 UK Motorists have to be on to something when they unanimously crowned the 2015 Lexus IS250 as THEE car to own in 2015.
Auto Express recently released its Driver Power Survey for 2015 where they polled more than 61,000 UK Motorists online on what car they owned and asked them to rank their car based on 10 different parameters on a scale from 1-100 which answered one simple question. Which is the best car to own?
The categories polled were,
- Reliability
- Build quality
- Running costs
- Performance
- Road handling
- Ride quality
- Ease of driving
- Seat comfort
- Practicality
- In-car technology
Based on the average of those ten scores, an overall car was crowned. And that happened to be the 2015 Lexus IS 250 or as they call it in Europe, the Lexus IS MK3. Second and third was the Hyundai i10 and Skoda Yeti, both which we don’t get in the United States. Surprisingly, eighth was the 2015 Nissan Leaf, a car that has sold moderately well in the United States.
So what made the Lexus IS250 the overall winner? The top two factors were reliability and build quality. UK owners thought that Toyota’s reliability transferred over to this Lexus. And when it came time to perform maintenance, it was cheap on their wallets.
With a lot of former BMW owners making the switch to the more reliable Lexus, it was indicative of the gains Lexus has made in overall build quality.

You’d be surprised to know that Lexus doesn’t even offer the Lexus IS350, because there isn’t the market for one.
That fact alone may hint at what makes a good car in the United States as opposed to the UK Market.
In the United States, we value large interior space, an adequately powered engine and plenty of utility. In the UK market, the top performers have smaller engines and an overall smaller footprint when compared to their American counterparts.
Perhaps that’s why in the United States, the mid-size sedan reigns supreme. Enthusiasts aside, it’s the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Ford Fusion that take top honors here.
If there’s anything us Americans can glean from this survey is that you can safely invest your money in a Lexus for long-term car ownership. And since we’re stateside, we can opt for the more powerful IS350.
