Did Jeep Stinger Bumper Contribute To Injuries In Utah County Accident?
By Paulo Acoba
Jeep Recovery stinger recovery bumpers. Their main purpose is to protect Jeep’s and other off-roading vehicles from tipping forward in the event of a roll-over.
But lately they’ve been getting negative press as of late for being the cause of many accidents and deaths.
Two Utah residents are currently under intensive medical care after being T-boned by a Jeep equipped with a stinger type recovery bumper. According to KSL News,
"A Jeep was traveling northbound on Highland Dr. near 11800 N. around 7:00 p.m. Monday when a smaller vehicle turned in front of it. The Jeep struck the smaller vehicle"
Just this February, this type of aftermarket bumper was in hot water after being found to contribute to to the deaths of two Oregon teenagers after their Honda Accord was rammed from behind with a similar Jeep bumper after another car missed a turn and stopped his Chevrolet Cruze in the middle of a two-lane highway. With little space to avoid the Cruze, the Honda Accord was sandwiched from behind by a following Jeep.
A Go-Fund me has been set up for both occupants critically injured in the accident with over $18,000 being raised in one day.
In addition, a Facebook page has been set up for family, friends and media with constant updates from the victims families.

Many have raised the concern for more regulation when it comes to mounting aftermarket parts to a vehicle. Basically, a stinger recovery bumper is in essence, a solid steel raised battering ram to the front of already tall road vehicles. In the event of a collision, such type of bumper would prove dangerous to the other vehicle.
Under normal driving conditions, this type of accessory is absolutely unnecessary for putting around town or cruising the freeway. If they were to be added before serious offroading, this wouldn’t be an issue. But when you start combining these bumpers with everyday car accidents, tragic accidents are bound to happen.
