Dragtimes just dropped its latest quarter mile matchup between two heavily modified vehicles, a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and a Porsche 911 Turbo S. Both had similar reaction times, and right off the line, the Porsche 911 Turbo S was beating the portly Grand Cherokee. But then brute power overcame lightweight efficiency and the Jeep pulled away beating the Porsche over the quarter mile a full half second (an eternity for this drag) and more than a second at 1 KM. The video is posted below for you to check out yourself.

Pound for pound, there are few cars that can match the value that the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 offers. Priced at a very affordable $65,890, it’s almost a third of the price of the Porsche 911 Turbo S (not like the’re comparable cars to begin with.) Power comes courtesy of a 6.4 Liter Hemi V8 good enough for 470 HP and 465 lbs-ft torque from its 392 cu. inch motor. This particular build is a twin-turbo which explains the bit of turbo lag off the line. Whomever tuned it boosted it up to a monstrous 1,200 HP, which you’re going to need to move that hunk of mass down the quarter mile. Then we have the lithe but capable Porsche 911 Turbo S. MSRP comes out to $182,700. Not exactly chump change. In stock form, the Porsche 911 Turbo S pumps out 560 HP and 553 lbs-ft of torque from its twin turbocharged 6 cylinder. It looks like this one is equipped with a Gorilla Racing Stinger exhaust system with a custom tune and probably a little more boost good for 650 HP.  But at the end of the day, the American way proved more effective with almost twice the HP, it was no contest. Line up stock variants of each and it would’ve been a different story. /
