Estimates originally pegged the 2016 Ford Focus RS to have 320 HP. It’s a now confirmed 350 HP and 350 Lb-Ft
Ford’s all new hot-hatch just got a little hotter. According to an official press release that hit the web from Ford earlier yesterday (Oct. 13, 2015) Ford engineers have confirmed that the 2016 Ford Focus will pack 350 HP and 350 lb-ft of torque. The real star of the engine bay is Ford’s all-new low inertia twin-scroll turbocharger now equipped with a larger compressor that delivers more airflow and subsequently more power. And that power can be found down low with all that torque coming in at 3,200 RPM. HP on the other hand comes in at 6,000 RPM.
Ford also unveiled a bit of clever kit that’s been around ever since start-stop technology was a thing. It’s called Stall Recovery and if you ever stall your Ford Focus RS at a stoplight, a simple drop of the clutch will get the starter motor going automatically which will in turn, turn the car on for you. You can even leave it in gear.
"“We knew we wanted to put start-stop technology on the RS,” explained Tyrone Johnson, engineering and vehicle manager, Ford Performance Europe. “So we said, ‘What if we went one step further, and controlled for engine stall at launch using the same technology?’ Well, that’s exactly what we did and it’s just as fast as our start-stop technology.”"
Ford has dubbed the 2016 Ford Focus RS as the beginning of the golden age of Ford Performance. From now till 2020, Ford plans to unveil at least a dozen high-performance models. That’s plenty fine by us.
