Tamiya RC Just Built A Life Size Aero Avante

One of Japan’s largest RC car makers has just unveiled a life-size working model of one of its most popular toys.
If you’re too young to start even dreaming about getting your drivers license and you spent a good deal of time outdoors, you probably owned an RC car sometime in your lifetime. Tamiya, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of RC cars released a youtube video earlier yesterday (Oct. 19, 2015) showcasing a full-size working model of its Aero Avante RC cars. And although we can’t understand a word of Japanese, it’s still worth a watch. Check out that video below.
As the video showcases, a considerable amount of R&D went into making this RC car a reality including building an entire tube frame from scratch, fitting a real working engine out back, using copious amounts of expansion foam to fill in the gaps in the body work and using injection molding on a large scale to make the body panels. After that they outfitted the car with real life size wheels and lowered the plastic body on top.
During the official unveil of the life-size Aero Avante, the RC car doesn’t seem to go all that fast and it looks like a few components are still undergoing development but for the most part everything seems to be fully functional.
This all comes off news this week that a life-size tikes car was made and was up for sale on eBay. We’re not entirely sure if this is a new trend but it seems younger generations with an influx of cash are now making their once childhood dreams a reality in more ways than one, and that includes making childhood toys into real size models.
