Although a lot of the action might be in at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda is bringing two special concept to SEMA.

The aftermarket has always been nice with Mazda and Mazda knows this all to well. According to their press release they dropped earlier today (Oct. 29, 2015) Mazda is bringing two special concepts to 2015 SEMA; a speedster and a spyder.

Mazda went ahead and partnered with some of the best in the aftermarket industry that they’ve had long and solid relationships with including Racing Beat, KW Suspensions, RAYS Wheels, and Franks Fab Shop to create two special Miatas that are sure to wow audiences. Keen eyes will recognize that a lot of these shops are located in Southern California in close proximity to their Irvine Office. No coincidence there.

First there’s the MX-5 Spyder which takes cues from vintage roadster of the classic era and brings it into the modern day. That means a custom leather interior and a new Mercury Silver paint. Mazda said says the interior was painstakingly crafted so we expect to see some exquisite detail compliments of California’s best fabricators.

Then there’s the MX-5 Speedster which is the one we’re most interested in. Minimalism is the name of the game and we’re going to assume that they’ve stripped absolutely all that they could from the already lightweight body and chassis. Mazda says that, “Both cars are significantly lighter than the 2,332-lbs” Which is amazing given how much they’ve already trimmed and maintained from generations past.

Although SEMA is all week next week, these two roadsters will be on display from Nov. 3-6.

We think both roadsters will be worth the close inspection. Mazda didn’t go and throw in forced induction or a bunch of power adders, but instead has appealed to the finer points in car modification. Something that has been pushed to the wayside in this day in age where shock and awe rule supreme.
