2016 Dodge Viper ACR Is King Of The Track Record Mountain
By Paulo Acoba
The Dodge Viper runs 1:28.65 for Laguna Seca, The Porsche 918 does it in 1:29.89 The Dodge Viper costs $730K less. ‘Nuff said.
If the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat were accepting awards for the 2015 Car of The Year, Kanye West would probably butt in right about now and say, “Imma let you finish but the Dodge Viper ACR has the fastest track records of all time…all time!!!” and Kanye West would be right. According to Dodge on their official press release they dropped earlier today (Nov. 3, 2015) they announced that their 2016 Dodge Viper ACR (American Club Racer) has the distinction of being the only production car with the most track records in the United States and has been verified by the Sports Car Club of America as stealing 13 records in total. Cue the mic drop.
For the longest time we wondered how heck could Dodge not stuff the Hellcat engine in their Dodge Viper. The supercharged V8 is lighter and more powerful than the naturally aspirated V10 that’s been iconic in the Viper since day 1. But it never was about power. The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR has,
"…the Extreme Aero package, which delivers 1,700+ pounds of peak downforce at top speed through a massive adjustable dual-element carbon fiber rear wing, rear carbon fiber diffuser, unique SRT hood with removable louvers, detachable extension for the front splitter and additional dive planes."

And although they don’t mention it in the press release, it has 645 HP and 600 lb-ft (compared to the Hellcat’s 707 HP and 645 lb-ft.) But the extra power doesn’t matter when you can’t negotiate a corner as well as the Viper ACR does. We’ve listed all the tracks the Viper ACR has dominated below. Sorry SRT Hellcat.
