Confirmed: Ford Bringing Back Ranger And Bronco By 2020

Small trucks and small SUV based crossovers are all the rage and Ford knows it.  

It’s been close to 20 years since the last Ford Bronco rolled off the assembly line and three years for the Ford Ranger (in North American trim that is) but a revival of both nameplates is set to happen. According to the Detroit Free Press on their report on the UAW’s four year agreement with Ford UAW leaders earlier Monday (Nov. 9, 2015,) included in the agreement along with the more important concessions on pay, is $9 billion earmarked for new investments.

"The new product investments include a commitment by Ford to bring its Ranger midsize pickup back to North America and to revive the storied Bronco nameplate. Both would be built at the Michigan Assembly Plant which will stop making the Ford Focus and C-Max families of vehicles there in 2018.Production of the Bronco is expected to start after the Ranger and no later than 2020, according to a person briefed on the agreement who was not authorized to speak publicly."

Earlier this year we reported that both the Ford Focus and C-Max production would most likely end and move to Mexico. All that freed up space in the Michigan assembly plant allows for new vehicles to join the assembly line, mainly the Bronco and Ranger.

The Ford Ranger technically hasn’t ended production as the nameplate has continued to sell in more than 180 global markets, except its body and chassis has been redesigned to suit other countries needs. Due to that Ford Ranger being to close to size to the Ford F-150, it isn’t sold in the United States and Canada.

As for the Ford Bronco, numerous concepts have been unveiled since the last Bronco rolled off the assembly line, but we feel that this Ford Bronco will be a clean sheet design with some serious off-roading chops.

Next: Why A New Ford Bronco Makes Sense

Either way, we’re excited to hear that Ford’s serious about these two nameplates and hopefully the rest of the UAW does too and votes to approve this agreeement.
