Just Ralph Gilles killing it at VIR in the Viper ACR
By Paulo Acoba
When you’ve spent enough seat time in the Viper ACR as much as Ralph Gilles, you’re bound to embarrass some of the more established racecars and their drivers on any given day.
Earlier in the week we reported that the VIPER ACR was making its way around various racetracks around the United States stripping records left and right. It looks like the domination is continuing as Ex CEO of SRT and current head of Fiat Chrysler Global head of design Ralph Gilles dropped his latest magnum opus of the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR straight dominating at Virginia International Raceway. Check out that video below and grab your popcorn because it’s about to get ugly.
"Great track day with the very organized and laid back Audi Club of North America – PCC. Last track day of the year and it was a blast. VIR ranks on the very top of my favorite tracks. Too much traffic to get any representative lap times but this machine is clearly professional grade. It is so capable that I am having to unlearn old habits and re-imagine what I believe is possible. This level of down force is really a sort of 4th dimension. At the same time car is so balanced, easy to drive and predictable that my (still a student) wife and I shared it all day!"

Some keen eyes on Instagram have pointed out that this Viper is sporting the Extreme Aero package which according to Car and Driver, “comes with a removable front splitter extension, an adjustable dual-element rear wing, four dive planes, six removable diffuser strakes, removable brake ducts, and hood louvers that can be popped out to decrease air pressure in the wheel wells.”
When you nestle in a 645 HP and 600 lb-ft of torque N/A beast of a V10 into all that aero and slap on a set of stick rubber, what you have on your hands is one hungry little track monster. And that video is testament to that.
We think that FCA is out to prove that the Viper isn’t the twitchy brute of a car it’s been given the reputation for. The Viper has always been about silencing competitors with the precision of a sledgehammer and thousands of hours in the wind tunnel haS only helped in this particular situation.

You don’t need to go to the Nurburgring to prove a point but we’re not surprised if they overnight this angry snake over their and dominate their too.
