It’s the battle of the supercharged V8’s and both have brought bazookas to a gun fight.
In Europe, street cred is won and lost on the track but in America, it all started with a couple of engineers from Detroit drag racing from light to light that kicked off the storied pastime of street racing. And the muscle car wars are alive and well with manufacturers bringing out high-horsepower builds in this golden age of forced induction with big V8’s. The two biggest contenders are the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. In their beefiest forms is Ford in its Shelby GT500 and Dodge with the SRT Hellcat. There are literally dozens of videos online with these two battling it out, but in this particular instance, thanks to SVT Nation earlier this week (Nov. 9, 2015) it looks like the Hellcat got stung. The tail of the tape is pretty cut and dry. The SRT Hellcat packs 707 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque and weighs in at a hefty 4,450 pounds whereas while the GT500 is a bit down in power by 50 HP, it tips the scales at a welterweight 3,845 pounds. It all comes down to the driver in some cases and this SRT Hellcat had the automatic making quick work of gear changes, so there’s that.
Right from the blocks, the GT500 grabs the lead and holds it with the SRT Hellcat trying its best to claw back at the Shelby to no avail. The SRT Hellcat challenger even rolls up his windows in a bid to get more aero. The same run again and the same results.
Next: This is why the SRT Hellcat has two keys
Rest assured, when these two lineup anywhere in the country, it’s a battle royale every time.
