This Norwegian tuning team took a lawn mower with a Corvette engine up to 134 MPH.

In its stock form, a Viking/STIHL T6 lawnmower puts out, at best, 19 HP when it’s cutting a lawn at full speed. That wouldn’t cut it (no pun intended) when The Norwegian Speed Factory Team set out to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest lawn mower. It took a 400+ HP American V8 to do the job. According to our good friends over at GM Authority who broke the piece earlier Tuesday they reported that this Norwegian Speed Team hit 134 MPH effectively breaking the old world record set by Honda last year by a solid 18 MPH. The Norwegian Speed Factory Team also released a video of that record-setting day and you can check that out below.

More from Art of Gears

Back in April of 2014, Honda broke the old record of a measly 87 MPH which was subsequently set in March of 2014 by Top Gear UK’s magazine team. Honda swapped the stock motor from a Honda HF260 Lawn Mower and put in their fire breathing 1000 cc engine from a Honda VTR Firestorm ( one of Honda’s fastest bikes.)

But this Norwegian team decided to take a more burly approach to their motor of choice and swapped in one very American V8, a GM LS-Series V8 from a C6 Chevrolet Corvette, which puts out a whopping 408 HP and more importantly, 400 lb-ft of torque. Although the record was set on a very wet runway, the T6 lawnmower was able to put down all its power and pull away from the line thanks to 400 lb-ft. We can easily imagine the team setting a much higher trap speed if the ground had been drier.

It should be noted that their lawn mower had a fuel roll cage while Honda’s mower did not. In addition, this lawn mower had wheels from a Formula 3 car.

According to the team’s marketing manager,

"“Today we are proud to have the world’s fastest lawnmower. It was an exciting day because of the weather, but Pekka and the rest of the gang did a great job. This is going to get attention worldwide"

We can’t help but feel like Honda is ready to take back this record. Lawn mowers don’t necessarily get all that much press, but if you set a speed record like this, you’ll be sure to put a spotlight on otherwise overlooked work vehicles.

Get to work Honda.
