Cars and Coffee: Departing Mustang Driver Crashes
By Mike Garcia
Cars and Coffee has grown tremendously. It is an event that draws in different types of cars and drivers, including more common cars such as Camaros and Mustangs.
Well over a year ago, Cars and Coffee in Orange County grew to well over 200 total cars. During its’ peak, the parking lot of Mazda headquarters in Irvine, California would overflow into the adjacent lot for an additional 50 vehicles.

The event had to be relocated. Drivers were being obnoxious with their exits. Traffic overflowed. It was too much for the hotel guests less than a mile away. Gearheads may be okay with hearing loud, small-block V8’s at 8 o’clock in the morning, but others won’t have it.
I have been to that location for well over two years. I saw the 2016 Mazda MX-5 prototype well over a year in advance. I saw the McLaren MP4-12c, both as a built car and as a space-frame chassis to be viewed by automotive die-hards. I saw a Radical RXC driving along the freeway, heading over to the event.
Exhaust noise was mildly tolerated. Drivers making fast exits, wasn’t tolerated.
Perhaps this was a case of all three.
It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the event. However, when some take it too far, it’s enough to get these events cancelled outright.
