This Tesla Model S P90D in Ludicrous mode almost humbled another archaic internal combustion engine at the drag strip

Serious sports car owners are absolutely livid over the fact that Teslas are showing up at dragstrips, taking names and kicking internal combustion engine butt, but they are. According to EVANNEX Aftermarket Tesla Accessories on YouTube earlier last week, this particular Tesla Model S P90D almost had his way with a Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 that lined up against it in the other lane. The keyword is almost. Check out the awesome quartermile drag race against these two All-American dragsters below.

Right off the line, it’s quite evident that the Tesla’s monster torque curve from zero RPM easily trumps the LT4’s gradual buildup to peak torque. The Tesla Model S P90D jumps out to a generous lead aided by a fairly easy ludicrous mode engaged. The Z06 languishes in the next lane, taking an eternity to lay down a reaction time.

Then, right at the very end, the Z06 comes roaring back and nips the Tesla Model S P90D at the line by a good .3 seconds. The Tesla Model S comes in at 11.327 seconds while the C7 Z06 notches one for the fossil fuels at 11.097 seconds.

While the Tesla Model S P90D has more than 762 HP and 687 lb-ft at its disposal compared to the Z06’s 650 HP and 650 lb-ft, simple physics takes over. That Tesla chassis comes in at a whopping 4,850 pounds while the Z06 weighs almost one ton less at 3,175 pounds.  And whereas the torque curve of a Z06 reaches its peak near the upper rev range, an equivalent torque curve of a Tesla Model S from a dyno shows a declining torque curve as power is poured on.

You’ll be surprised to know that the Florida Tesla Enthusiasts club takes more than a dozen of its members and their cars down to Palm Beach International Raceway on a regular basis. So while this Tesla may have lost, there’s a slew of videos on the way showing some upsets.
