The performance oriented track package that transforms the already capable 6th Gen Camaro into a road-hugging warrior returns. 1LE is available for V6 or V8 power.

Just days before the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, Chevrolet reintroduced one of its more practical and popular packages for the all-new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. According to GM’s official press release earlier Tuesday, Chevrolet is bringing back the 1LE package for the Chevrolet Camaro that’s better known as the “performance on the track” package. Those in the market for a Camaro have their choice of V6 or V8 power when they option out the 1LE. As you can imagine, both drastically improve handling and have the potential to scrub seconds from your lap time.

First, there’s the Camaro LT 1LE. You already get Camaro’s more than capable 3.6L V-6 rated at 335 HP mated to a six-speed manual. Chevrolet nicks FE3 suspension components from the Camaro SS which includes dampers and chassis strengthening tie-bars. The aluminium alloys on each corner are shod in Eagle F1’s and stopping power is taken cared of by 4-pot Brembo’s. A mechanical limited slip makes sure power is going to the right wheels and overall steering is improved by a suede steering wheel and short throw shifter. Add on a track cooling package to keep the oil cool and the SS fuel system to aid fuel delivery under high g-forces and you’ve got all the essential fluids in check under the hood. Chevrolet finishes off its signature sound with a dual mode exhaust.

The Camaro SS 1LE benefits from GM’s FE4 suspension a.k.a magnetic ride control. The engine is a beast with the LT1 V8 pumping out 455 HP with all that power routed through a six-speed manual. The limited slip in this 1LE is electronic with a different ratio. Around all four corners are forged aluminium alloys again shod in Eagle F1s. You get all the fluid cooling features, suede steering wheel, short throw shifter and duel mode exhaust just like in the V6 package.

Those in the know will be able to tell which Camaro’s value function over form as these 1LE’s will have satin black hoods, front mirrors and a three piece spoiler. In front, you get a splitter and out back you get a rear diffuser.

The 1LE sports an impressive list of features and we wonder if the price of this package will be comparable to the Mustang GT350. According to Autoblog, the 1LE package list price from last year will stay relatively similar this year, so expect an additional $3,500.
