Tesla: Model X vs Model S P90D Drag Race
By Mike Garcia
Just how fast is the Tesla Model X? Faster than you think.
A husband and wife filled their garage with Tesla vehicles. The wife owns the “sport-utility” Tesla with the Model X, while the husband drives the Model S P90D Ludicrous. They met at a drag strip to compare who is actually faster. The husband is a self-admitted experienced drag racer, while it was the wife’s first time driving on the drag strip. Both vehicles are optioned with the P90D Ludicrous set up.

According to the Tesla Motors website: when the vehicles are specified with the 90-kWH battery, dual motor, and Ludicrous speed set up, the front motor is capable of 255 horsepower, while the rear motor is capable of 532 horsepower. That power allows the Model S P90D Ludicrous to accelerate to 60 miles an hour from a dead stop in an estimated 2.8 seconds. Phil McNamara of Car magazine said, that when driven very aggressively, the car is still capable of a range nearing 120 total miles.
During the wife’s first run, she jumps the gun and gets an obvious lead. Considering both vehicles are electric, it is impressive to hear the hint of tire squeal coming out of the Model X. Even more impressive, is how consistent the launch of each car is, how the power gets to the ground, and how eerily similar the trap speeds are.
On the second drag run, the Model S wasn’t ready.
