Accompanying Hulkenberg and Perez will be developmental driver Alfonso Celis Jr. who will be doing the honors of taking the VJM09 on its maiden voyage during testing later today.
This newcar has some striking difference when compared to the VJM08B. First off all, the front end drops off dramatically from the airbox forward. In addition, the sidepod air intakes have a different shape and are smaller (which seems to be the trend with new cars for 2016.)
At first glance, the front end appears to be the same. The back does seem tighter.
Many people have high-hopes for Force India this year as they garnered a fifth place constructors finish last year given that they weren’t even able to run their 2015 car until a good way through the season. Nevertheless, Perez managed to give the team its first podium finish since 2014 by placing third during the Russian Grand Prix. With a seventh and eighth place finish in Mexico City, the team snagged fifth, surprising many of its fans and detractors.
