Hennessey’s 751-HP Chevrolet Camaro SS Makes Getting To 200 MPH Look Easy
Hennessey’s Chevrolet Camaro SS is the first 6th-gen Camaro to break 200 mph.
When automakers are looking to create a high-performance vehicle, there’s one figure that has to be met—a top speed of at least 200 mph. Having a top speed of 200 mph has been something that separates supercars from the everyday run of the mill performance vehicles. Thankfully, tuners like Hennessey Performance exist to bring regular cars out of the dark and into the supercar limelight.

The Texas-based tuning company went to work on a Chevrolet Camaro SS to make it more powerful than a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat without the use of forced induction. Thanks to a new camshaft, CNC-ported cylinder heads, a new exhaust system and valvetrain upgrades, this Camaro puts out 605 hp and that’s before the nitrous. With assistance from a 150-shot of nitrous, this muscle car now puts out an incredible 751 hp at the flywheel.
To see what the tuned Camaro SS is capable of, Hennessey put Brian Smith—the driver that does all of the tuner’s top speed testing—behind the wheel and set him loose at the Continental Tire Proving Ground in Uvalde, TX. Care to guess how fast the muscle car went?

Thanks to all of the performance updates, and some good driving, the modified Camaro SS was able to hit a GPS-verified 202.1 mph. That’s obviously much faster than the muscle car’s stock top speed and the noise that car makes when getting up to that speed is absolutely incredible. It’s a good time to be a muscle car fan.
