Motor Trend Puts Two McLaren 675LT Supercars To The Test

McLaren has been on a role recently. The automaker has done a fantastic job of outlining its supercars in an order that not only makes sense performance wise, but also cost wise, as well.

For instance, the automaker’s latest supercar, the 570S and 570GT are the least powerful and cheapest models. The next supercar up is the 650S, which has more power and, therefore, costs more. McLaren’s lineup makes a lot of sense, even to enthusiasts that can’t afford its vehicles.

However, there is a car in McLaren’s lineup that doesn’t make much sense—the 675LT. At roughly $400,000, the 675LT is $150K more than the 650S and only adds 25 hp over the cheaper supercar. While all 500 units of the 675LT are sold out, one can’t help but question whether or not the track-focused supercar is really worth the extra money.

Thankfully, Motor Trend’s latest episode of Ignition puts not one, but two 675LT supercars to the test to see if its worth an additional $150K for the 650S. With the 675LT’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that puts out 666 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, the more expensive supercar does have a slight edge in performance, but the magic is really the things that we can’t see.

The 675LT, even by the looks of it, is much more track focused than the 650S. The 675LT has aerodynamic and suspension upgrades over the 650S to make it even faster around a track.

As you can see from the video, the 675LT is blisteringly quick around a track and even enjoyable on the road. But $150K is a lot of money. Is the 657LT worth it? We sure think so.
