The best-selling Tesla Model S is going to receive a couple of updates to set it apart from its main rival, the Tesla Model 3.

If you wanted a four-door electric car that used Tesla proprietary supercharging network and seated five comfortably, you only had the Tesla Model S as an option. But with the Tesla Model 3 on the way, Tesla is facing stiff competition from itself unfortunately (which is a good thing for a company.) In a bid to set itself apart from…itself, according to the latest unconfirmed rumors from CNET earlier today, it looks like the Tesla Model S is ready to receive a couple of upgrades.

So far, no word on performance upgrades but it looks like an interior and exterior refresh is in order. Have a quick read on what these updates are below and let us know if you’d still choose a Tesla Model S over a Model 3 in the comments below.

Exterior-wise you can look to the Tesla Model 3 for clues. When the Model 3 was introduced, not only was this a totally new car but a shift in design language as well. Keen eyes noticed the absence of a front grill. Without a traditional internal combustion engine underneath the hood, there’s no need for traditional cooling. CNET’s sources are speculating that there will be no grille on the Tesla Model S.

In addition, LED headlights will sap less power from the batteries during the night time and you can look for a new palette of colors from their paint shop.

Inside, there’ll be a bit more luxury in that they’ll offer the Tesla Model X seats in the Tesla Model S. That means you have the option of vented seats up front.

You’d think all this innovation and luxury appointments would lower the price of the Tesla Model S, but you’d be wrong. Expect a price increase.

Take an elementary approach to this issue and you’ll see that demand for the Tesla Model S hasn’t tapered since its introduction in 2012. Theoretically, Tesla could’ve always charged more for the S. Now they are.

We can’t wait to see what Tesla’s engineers come up with when its reintroduced. Hopefully, they’ll throw in some upgraded batteries as well for a bit more oomph.
