The Stig gives his thoughts about the Audi R8 V10 Plus

More from Art of Gears

Speaking of California dreaming, how about the Audi R8 V10 Plus?  Is it in your dream garage too?  Earlier, Winding Road made a

POV video

of taking a McLaren P1 to the track at the Circuit of the Americas.  Getting behind a McLaren P1 isn’t easy, but at least there are Audi R8’s that can be rented out, right?  Can’t I just be Tony Stark for just one day and pretend to drive to Stark Industries? Even that may be costly, but at least Ben Collins takes you through the changes of the latest Audi R8 V10 Plus.

Watching the video, did anyone else notice how shaky and bumpy the ride looked?  After I made that observation, Ben Collins noted how the car was 40% stiffer and 20% lighter.  With a taut suspension, it shouldn’t be surprising that there are so many wiggles on the drive.  Then again, a taut suspension helps in the car’s responsiveness to a driver’s input.  For a brief second, Ben took a quick dab going left with a lane change.  The immediacy of the Audi is apparent.  The car didn’t just turn into the lane, it practically tried to pivot into the lane at speed.

With 610 horsepower out of the 5.2-liter V10, it takes a driver of a higher focus to keep the power to the ground, even with the all-wheel-drive system.

More cars: Base Audi R8 Will Get A Surprising Engine Choice

The Audi R8 seems to establish itself as an “entry-level” supercar.  Now it comes with a boosted V6 engine, with a highly capable all-wheel-drive drivetrain that helps in low traction situations while providing a bit of fervor for the more spirited driver.  The Audi R8 V10 Plus just sharpens the capabilities of the base R8, while providing a more visceral experience to the senses.

I may never become Tony Stark, but at least I can get a sense of how capable the Audi R8 V10 Plus truly is.
