Now that the Nurburgring has lifted its ban on lap records, Koenigsegg is going after a record with the One:1.

After the horrific accident that occurred early last year when a Nissan GT-R race car flipped over a fence and claimed a spectator’s life, the German Motorsport Association (DSMB) placed a speed limit on the iconic Nurburgring. To further ensure the safety of drivers and spectators alike, the Nurburgring management board imposed speed limits on other parts of the track. This put an end to automakers attempting to set lap records in supercars.

Now that the Nurburgring’s speed limits have been lifted, automakers are ready to go back to the infamous track to set a new record. Swedish supercar automaker Koenigsegg appears to have taken little time getting its One:1 to the track in the hopes of besting the recent times that have been posted by hypercars. Most notably, the Porsche 918 Spyder.

There aren’t a lot of road-going cars that have managed to circle the Nurburgring in less than seven minutes, but the 918 Spyder immediately comes to mind with at time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds.

Lamborghini has also recorded a sub-seven minute time with its Aventador SV (6 minutes and 59 seconds). Currently, Koenigsegg has a time of 7 minutes and 34 seconds with its CCR, but expects to cut at least a minute off of that time with the more powerful One:1.

As its name suggests, the One:1 boasts a power to weight ratio of 1:1 thanks to its twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 that puts out 1,341 hp. Getting to 60 mph only takes 2.5 seconds, while the hypercar can sprint all the way up to 273 mph. Will it be able to take down the mighty 918 Spyder? Only time will tell.
