Driven to Cure: Andrew Lee Brings His GT-R To SEMA
By Kelly G.
Andrew Lee’s 700-hp Liberty Walk GT-R takes center stage at this year’s SEMA Show, all to raise awareness to help battle cancer.
When I first heard about Andrew Lee’s story back in August 2016, I knew I had to do my part to raise awareness of the cause. Andrew’s journey of turning his love of cars into a platform to fight cancer is truly an inspirational story. And the fact that Andrew is doing all of this while battling Stage 4 cancer himself is just remarkable.
Andrew Lee has been diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer that is incurable. But Andrew had no plans of letting this diagnosis get in the way of chasing his dreams.
With the help of his family, friends, and the car community, Andrew founded the non-profit organization Driven to Cure, and he was able to take his love of cars and build a 700-hp, daily driven 2015 Nissan GT-R as his platform for the fight.
To date, Andrew’s organization has raised over $200,000.00 which is solely used for cancer research. It is also important to note that none of the money raised is used toward his GT-R build.

When I heard that the Driven to Cure Liberty Walk GT-R and more importantly, Andrew himself was going to be attending this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas, I knew I had to make sure I stopped by his booth to shake his hand and check out the build.
Now I don’t normally get star struck when meeting a celebrity or a pro racer, but when I met Andrew at SEMA, I was a straight up mumbling mess! I was so excited to meet this young man that I was really at a loss for words.
And the loss for words wasn’t because I felt sorry or sad about his condition. When I shook Andrew’s hand, I immediately knew I was shaking the hand of a real “car guy.”
Andrew is not letting his diagnosis get in the way of living his dreams and is battling it on his own terms. Meeting Andrew was both an honor and a privilege and man did it make me happy to see him there in person.
Andrew was sitting right next to his “F CANCR” Liberty Walk GTR, and the car is a beast! SEMA had placed the car in a perfect spot, right outside the halls of the convention center, so that the custom orange paint could shine in all it’s glory.
I will admit, I was a little overwhelmed because this was the first time I was able to see the car in person. Andrew was also there with many of his family and friends, and you could see the happiness on Andrew’s face as his GT-R was on display at what many enthusiasts consider the “Superbowl” of all car shows.
The car got a ton of attention, and talking with a member of his family, also raised a lot of money during the week to help the cause.
Our friends at Car Throttle did an updated documentary while Andrew was at SEMA and here is the video:
