Comedian Will Ferrell aka “Frank the Tank” is set to star in an upcoming movie role as an eSports athlete, but will it include some eSports racing?

Comedian Will Ferrell has always been known for his outrageously funny comedies over the years, and many of his movies one way or another show his love for the car community as well.

From movies like Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby to one of my personal favorite’s Old School, Ferrell has a gift of portraying a car guy or professional athlete that many of us can somehow relate to.

Well, it turns out Will Ferrell has just accepted to star in a new role as a professional eSports athlete. The untitled project will be written by Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn, who both worked on the SpongeBob SquarePants 3 movie, which is due to release in 2019.

Although few details have been confirmed, we do know that Ferrell will star as a member of a professional eSports team and because of his age, is an abnormality in a sport where professional players are usually much younger.

2016 has been a huge year for eSports, and the growing popularity of eSports racing in our community managed to land it in the Top 100 of our FanSided Fandom250 this year!

For 2016, the total prize pool for eSports Championships was over $20 million, and many of the eSports World Finals had just as many views as the NBA Finals!

Ferell’s role as Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights was a cult classic, and we are hoping that his new movie role will have some of those familiar car references that we love.

One of my favorite car guy moments was in the movie Old School when we were first introduced to “Frank the Tank” working on “The Red Dragon,” a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am in his front yard. Classic!
