It’s not strange these days to see a Chevrolet Corvette in police car colors. But the Texas Police Department’s Coptimus Prime cop car has an action-packed backstory.

Italy has its Lamborghini cop cars and Dubai has pretty much every iconic supercar and hypercar donning police car livery. But none of their cars may have the kind of backstory that Coptimus Prime has. This 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a tale which may actually be adapted to an episode of an action-packed police procedural TV show.

The official site of the City of New Braunfels (Texas) says that this Vette was seized during a large methamphetamine raid in June of 2011. A large-scale operation which saw the US DEA and the Comal County Metro Narcotics Task Force joining forces to take down a powerful meth trafficking cell headed by the notorious La Familia Michoacana gang.

The raid ended up breaking the narco gang’s spine as the law enforcement agencies seized drugs, weapons, jewelry and cars once the mission concluded. The titular Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was among the spoils of war and was rewarded to the New Braunfels PD, Texas in 2013.

This Chevrolet Corvette Z06 comes with a fancy history which will look great if covered in an episode of the upcoming SWAT TV show reboot.

More from Cars

Since the Corvette was too fancy to be used for regular patrol purposes, NBPD decided to give it a coat of paint in cop car colors, put on some police lights and roll it out as a community outreach tool. They even conducted a Facebook contest inviting children in the area to give their “Hero Car” a badass name. The result – Coptimus Prime – came from a huge Transformers fan for sure.

More like how the rest of the police forces around the world actually put their star cars to work, the Coptimus Prime took the form of a bridge between cops and the public. And that’s where the car emerged as a major triumph for the Police Department. Attending local parades, school-related functions and community events, Coptimus Prime has been executing its PR duties with panache since inception.

We are trying hard to avoid a Transformers reference in this post on the Coptimus Prime Corvette. So much for the efforts!

The City of New Braunfels site claims that the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 packs in aftermarket modifications which lends it an unbelievable power output of 1005 hp. That’s a lot of power in a car which may not be putting all of that to the glorious purpose of burning rubber and breaking quarter-mile records at the local dragstrip. But hey, it doesn’t have to. It’s a hero even without pulling off smoking donuts.

Authorities will be auctioning off this special 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Coptimus Prime eventually. But they have no plans to do it anytime soon since the Coptimus Prime is such a ginormous hit with the public and children now.
