Good things aren’t over yet! The new Jaguar XF Sportbrake drives us back to the station wagon era.  Grab yours for $71,445!

The idea of wagons isn’t something new to the Americans. The USA, over the years has seen countless number of popular sedans in their wagon guises. The latest to join the Jamboree is  the Jaguar XF Sportbrake, the newest cub from the family of English leaping Jags.

The news is indeed exhilarating for the American wagon-lovers, who were earlier quite let down by the news that the carmaker would be giving up on wagons, as it believed that SUVs were the talk of the hour.

Announced to be a ‘global vehicle’, the Sportbrake is a more practical, purpose-oriented, wagon version of the flashy  XF sedan. The sedan, though not as sought-after as its German rivals, is undoubtedly one of the best choices that anyone looking for a  nice and neat mid-size luxury sedan could ever make.

More from Cars

The Sportbrake looks a bit chunky at the tail, thanks to the long rear overhang. This additional meat at the rear also means that the estate gets a hefty 69.7 cubic feet of load space with the rear seats folded flat. With the seats on, its a 31.7 cubic feet of space.

Its super-long tail section with that lengthy rear overhang bestows the Jaguar XF Sportbrake with loads of luggage space.

The car boasts of added practicality due to the self-leveling suspension at the rear, that ensures smooth handling, even when towing up to 4,400 pounds of load. Also on board are a gesture control function for the full length panoramic roof and a waterproof wristband key.

The well-crafted body of the wagon indeed goes easy on the air with the drag coefficient being an impressive 0.29. The US spec car would be powered just by a 380 hp, 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 initially. Mated to an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive system, this engine would make the vehicle do the 0-60 mph sprint in just 5.3 seconds. Yes, that’s as impressive as it seems.

From what know as of now, it won’t be completely pointless to expect a successor to the previous generation XFR-S Sportbrake sometime soon. Having said all that, the car would stand against the likes of Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon and Volvo V90 in the market. Expect the prices of the same, scheduled for the later half of this year, hopefully as a 2018 model, to start somewhere around $71,445.
