2018 Ford Mustang Pony Package Oozes With Retro Charm
Still in love with the classic Mustang design cues? Ford has a solution called the Pony Package and you can opt for it while ordering the 2018 Ford Mustang.
The 2018 Ford Mustang will be on sale in the United States from October 2017 and it has a decent number of visual updates to make the car stay appealing to muscle car buyers. Ford had to pull up their sleeves since the Dodge Challenger is now gradually gaining momentum. So will the Pony Package make more customers turn to Ford for their muscle car/sports car needs? Only time will tell.
What we do know for now is that Ford’s options pack does lend the modern-day Mustang with some of the charms of the classic Stang. The best component in the pack is that classy chrome front grille detail with the iconic pony-in-corral design.
It’s among the handful of standout design features which were present in the pony car from its original 1960s design phase itself. The pony-in-corral grille has come and gone multiple times as the Mustang went through its various generations over the decades. Ford had brought that grille back in for the 50th Anniversary Mustang in 2015 too. It’s good to see it being a part of the Pony Package meant for the 2018 model.

In addition to the new grille, Ford has listed out the following updates too.
- 19-inch polished aluminum wheels
- Bright beltline and window trim for fastback model
- Premium carpeted floor mats with Ebony embroidered pony logo
- Side stripes on lower body sides
- Tri-bar pony badge on rear decklid appliqué
Now all that sounds like roses. But there is a little bit of a catch here. Ford is making the Pony Package available on the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine version of the 2018 Mustang. There is no information yet on the package being opened up for buyers opting for the 5.0-liter V8-powered variant.
The 2018 Ford Mustang will be more than just a facelifted version of the outgoing model.
The latest iteration of the quintessential American muscle car comes with a good number of visual and mechanical updates. While it still maintains the basic shape of the 2017 model, the new car has revised front and rear styling, thanks to the more aggressive treatment given to the front grille, bumpers, headlights and taillights and a new hood. The front fascia now sits lower than its predecessor’s, bestowing the 2018 Ford Mustang with a more sinister stance.

Mechanical changes include a major round of tweaks for the suspension setup and a round of upgrades for the engines. Ford is yet to spread the word on the performance figures. All models are getting the Line-lock “burnout” feature, including the including the EcoBoost versions. You can read more about that in one of our previous posts.
