The Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta turned up at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, proving the theory that the Zonda is not dead. Not yet.

There was an episode of BBC Top Gear in which Jeremy Clarkson drives a Pagani Zonda R and then has a chat with James May on why Pagani will keep making the car regardless of the popular line of “this is the last Zonda”. That line holds as much truth as Dominic Toretto saying, “One last ride”. Anyway, we’ll be more than happy to welcome them with open arms, if more supercars like the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta are in the works.

The first piece which was unveiled at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is quite a gorgeous specimen of automotive art and engineering. Let’s start with that chopped windscreen to begin with. That’s not like anything we’ve ever seen on a Zonda and makes us wonder when the Pagani Huayra will sport that kind of hairdo. Then there are the wheels which come in silver on the left and in blue on the right. That’s a sense of fashion which may take a while to catch up. But if anything can pull it off now, it’s a Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta. Those extended rear wheel fenders made of carbon-fiber may not be of everyone’s tastes. But who cares? This is a Zonda. It has to be outrageous.

The Huayra came in handy, with some of the carbon-titanium components being borrowed from the current Pagani poster car. The wheels and the seats look a lot like those used by the Huayra. The steering wheel goes retro with its wood and blue leather finish and the interior is done up in ivory leather with blue and tartan highlights to break the monotony.

More from Cars

If you were wondering if the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta can spite fire through those tail pipes, we have a treat for you in the video below.

Weighing 1,250 kg, the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta is sort of an amalgamation of all the special edition Zondas which came before it and somehow all of those bits and pieces have come together to form a great-looking tribute car.

We don’t want to say this and be proved wrong just as everyone else. But here it goes anyway. This could be the last Zonda as the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta was created to celebrate Horacio Pagani’s 60th birthday, along with paying homage to a machine which placed the brand on the map as a serious supercar manufacturer.

Only three examples of the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta will be made and one of them will go into Horacio Pagani’s private collection. The carmaker’s Instagram post on the new car says this the how the founder imagined his own Zonda. So, in all its fairness, the man should get to keep one of these. The question remains on how many interested parties are going to fight over the other two copies of this radical Zonda.
