Frankfurt Motor Show: 2019 Bentley Continental GT Makes Global Debut
The new Bentley Continental GT in its 2019 model year guise has made its global debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
This is the third-generation of the highly successful Bentley Continental GT tourer and though the new avatar retains the basic silhouette and design of the original, it’s quite an all-new car once you get down to the details. The 2019 model year version was unveiled to media a few days ago. But the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show appearance is to be regarded as its global debut moment.
With a revised front section that has borrowed heavily from the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept and a redesigned rear end which has a better-looking set of taillamps in the shape of ellipses, the fluid-looking 2019 Bentley Continental GT has evolved significantly from its original design. But care was taken to maintain the lines which make the new model identifiable as a Conti GT.
Built on the same MLB platform employed by the new Porsche Panamera, the 2019 Bentley Continental GT ditches the old one which was borrowed from the VW Phaeton. The overall length of the new Conti GT is more or less the same. But the wheelbase has received a bonus by pushing the front wheels forward, thereby creating a longer and lower hood.

Around 10 square meters to wood was used to create the interior of the 2019 Bentley Continental GT and it takes nine hours to craft and fit the inlays in each car.

The interior gets the full-on, quintessential, handcrafted, Bentley luxury car treatment with high-quality leather, fabric, veneer and metal. All of those can be customized in terms of finish, material and color. The crown jewel of the interior is the rotating three-sided display unit on the dash, with a touchscreen, three analogue gauges, and wood veneer forming each side. More like those revolving number plates on 007’s Aston Martin DB5.
Underneath the hood, the new flagship engine – a 626 hp, 664 lb-ft, 6.0-liter W12 – which can propel the mammoth GT car to a top speed of 207 mph lives. It can also dash for the 60 mph mark from a standstill in 3.6 seconds. A dual-clutch automatic transmission, part-time four-wheel drive and cylinder deactivation are the other noteworthy factors associated with the engine and transmission.

The 2019 Bentley Continental GT is already open for booking in Europe and customers have started placing orders as well. Though it’ll be 2018 when the cars start reaching their respective owners, we are sure that soccer players and celebrities will be leading the charge from the front. Just like the other two generations of the Conti GT, those chaps just can’t get enough of this grand tourer which has been around since 2003.
