McLaren MSO R Spider And MSO R Coupe Ordered Together By One Customer
Whoever it is, this customer doesn’t like to choose between two options. He or she likes to have them both and commissioned these two special cars – McLaren MSO R Spider and MSO R Coupe – together.
McLaren has a personalization division called the MSO – McLaren Special Operations. If you want to change things on your newly-ordered McLaren supercar, the MSO team will be more than happy to fix an appointment with you to know what kind of paint job you need and the texture of the materials used to finish the interior. Give them a lot more money and they’ll even make one-off specimens like the McLaren MSO X-1, a.k.a projects which include substantial changes in design, mechanicals and dynamics.
One customer – a loyal and affluent one – took a path in between. He or she wanted a special McLaren supercar based on the Super Series platform. And perhaps there was some trouble in deciding whether it should be a coupe or a convertible, because the customer ended up ordering two cars with the same scope and direction. Those two bespoke machines are right here in the images below – the McLaren MSO R Spider and the MSO R Coupe.
Both cars flaunt enormous twin-element rear wings, a lavish number of aerodynamic elements in carbon-fiber and red highlights, a broad and exposed carbon-fiber stripe, MSO R decals, Liquid Silver paint job and black 5-spoke wheels. However, the MSO R Coupe possesses a satin finish for the body and wheels, while the MSO R Spider has gloss finish for the suit and footwear.

Step inside the McLaren MSO R Coupe and Spider to be greeted by lots of Alcantara. The dash and doors have black Alcantara with red stitching and for the seats the colors get reversed. Black MSO R badging embroidered on the red seats wrap up the thrones. Steering wheel has Alcantara grips and enough carbon-fiber to touch and feel if you have a thing for the lightweight material. A 12 o’ clock stripe is in place as well.
We saved the engine details for the last. The blueprinted M838TL twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engines powering this “power couple” of bespoke supercars have hand-polished heads and exhaust ports. The powerplants produce 679 hp of power and 516 lb-ft of torque now. With a new “crossover” muffler now part of the exhaust system, the McLaren MSO R Coupe and MSO R Spider will have great soundtracks for everyone around to listen to.

McLaren hasn’t revealed the cost of the “two-off” package deal yet. Perhaps the customer wants it to be a secret.
